Cloud & Fire was recently honored by the Christian Foundation of the West as one of the “top four” grantees in its “Inspired Giving” program. CFW awarded Cloud & Fire a grant of $5,250 to develop its Christian Education program for children. Among the other awardees were Children’s Hunger Fund and Union Rescue Mission. What a blessing to see foundations supporting work with the poor and the building of God’s Kingdom!
Luis, age 20, is one of 16 January graduates. At the beginning of his senior year of high school, Luis dropped out because of habits of laziness that began his junior year which lead to an apathetic mindset. He didn’t care about being at school on time, going to class or doing assignments in a timely manner. It was Luis’ aunt who first heard of Cloud & Fire and urged him to attend our program and get back on track, but it wasn’t until he became tired of being unproductive and stuck that he decided it was time for a change.
Like so many of our students, Luis will remember the atmosphere and the staff of Cloud & Fire. He says, “Cloud & Fire is such a safe and comforting place. The staff truly care and they are consistently trying to reach and meet every individual.” Currently, Luis is working towards enrolling in a CNA (Certified Nurse’s Assistant) program through JVS (Jewish Vocational Services). There were times when Luis wanted to give up, but he says the staff really helped him to see the importance of not letting his past determine his future. “It’s never too late to try again. When you focus on the past and your past mistakes you lose sight of your present and ultimately your future. Cloud & Fire helped me change my perspective.”
We’re so proud of Luis and our other January graduates for not giving up or letting their pasts keep them from rebuilding everything.
